SPECIAL QUEST: Working with Children with Disabilities

Workshop Description

This day long session will allow participants to work with trained Special Quest consultants who will provide a hands on, interactive array of activities, videos, discussion guides and tools that will offer an introduction to including children with disabilities and their families into early childhood programs.  Participants will explore creating a bright beginning for children with disabilities, discover strategies to working with families during early identification periods, consider methods for enhancing staff’s comfort learn hands-on adaptations and accommodations for children and understand how all this impacts programs, communities and families.

Participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge of evidenced based approaches for serving children with disabilities ages 0-5 and their families.
  • Learn about recruitment and retention of  young children with disabilities and their families
  • Increase their understanding of web based tools and resources that are available to providers to provide adaptations and accommodations for serving children with disabilities
  • Will become familiar with practices for working with young children with disabilities and their families to apply in their own program
  • Increase their knowledge regarding services for working including  adults with disabilities as resources

About Eva Carter and Cleo Rodriguez Jr.

Eva Carter is the National Technical Assistance Coordinator with the National Child Care Information and Technical Assistance Center in Fairfax, Va. She also serves on the Special Quest Advisory Board and is a Consultant for Special Quest.

Cleo Rodriguez, Jr., is Executive Director of Raising Austin and also a National Special Quest Consultant based in Austin , Texas.
