Advocacy

  • A-
  • A+

The Texas Association for the Education of Young Children seeks to improve early childhood education in Texas by supporting its members to be effective early childhood advocates.  We also collaborate with other early childhood advocacy groups to promote smart public policies that improve quality and address the critical needs of young children and their families.

Each one of you is an advocate. When you prepare a child for kindergarten, you’re her advocate.  When you connect her parents to community resources, you’re their advocate. When you participate in professional development, speak in front of your City Council, call your elected officials or vote for policymakers who invest in early childhood education, you’re an advocate for our profession. Each one of you is an advocate. And we need your voice now more than ever.

We Need Your Help to #SaveChildCare

Our nation’s families, children, educators, child care programs, and businesses need $50 billion in substantial, targeted relief funds to stabilize child care, and they need it now.

We are powerful when we act together; we’ve seen the difference your voices make. Because of your stories, shared with members of Congress and the public through news articles, op-eds, social media, and virtual meetings, child care is at the top of the list of bipartisan priorities for voters and policymakers.

While the House passed the bipartisan Child Care Is Essential Act (S. 3874/ H.R. 7027) proposing $50 billion for the child care industry, Congress and the White House did not reach an agreement on overall relief spending. Until there is a deal for a relief package that includes necessary funds for child care, our work is not done.

We must keep reaching out! It remains crucial that constituents continue to sustain pressure on Congress. Reaching out to your Members of Congress reinforces that families, providers, and the economy are depending on them to ensure at least $50 billion in stabilization funding to #SaveChildCare.

Ways you can help:

  • Visit NAEYC's Action Alert Center for a quick and easy way to contact your Senators and Representatives with emails, tweets, and more.
  • View NAEYC's state-by-state data on child care during the pandemic.
  • Use the #SaveChildCare advocacy toolkit to find suggestions for emails, phone calls, and social media posts to raise awareness about the child care crisis.
