Michael Gonzalez, Governing Board President-Elect
Photo of Michael GonzalezFor those of you who don’t know me, my name is Michael Gonzalez and I am the current Vice President of Chapter Relations for TXAEYC and your President-Elect. I have been in the education field for 20 years now, working in every capacity you could imagine and a lifetime student. I’ve been a toddler teacher, unclogged the toilets, the parent- teacher mediator. And in all this time, doing all that comes with the role of an educator, I’ve learned two very important things. One, I truly love what I do. And Two… the reward that children receive from education makes every moment worth it. We have the honor and the responsibility to grow these children into successful and contributing members of our society.
There has been a shift in the expectations for professional development in early childhood education. New guidelines are asking more of us, demanding that we are more knowledgeable about how children learn and how to best reach each and every child we teach. This is a great change as it encourages a culture of improvement in our schools and in the early childhood community. As your president, I will strive to ensure our membership has the best interests of the children and their growth.

Jodi Nerren, Governing Board Vice President of Membership-Elect
Paula Barnes photoHowdy! My name is Jodi Nerren, and I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as the incoming Vice President of Membership for TXAEYC! I'm the Early Childhood Program Specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Bryan-College Station and a founding member of TXAEYC's Brazos Valley Chapter. In my career, I have worked in private, public, and nonprofit ECE settings in a variety of roles, but my most important role is parenting twin daughters who have recently left the early childhood stage. As your future VP of Membership, I hope to provide you with resources and tools that will support your efforts to promote high-quality early childhood education for all of our youngest Texans.

Debbie Rose, Governing Board Secretary-Elect
Paula Barnes photoAs a mother and grandmother, I believe that quality education begins at an early age and with uniquely educated care providers, teachers, and instructors. Equity in status of those who teach our children must be achieved. I feel the critical issues existing to achieve this are: An ongoing recognition of the importance of the ECE field; Early childhood specific education to those working with young children; Quality care for all children is paramount but the early years are essential to them achieving a head start on their full potential.
I believe TXAEYC has a critical role in promoting ECE. Working closely with entities that have legislative contact, TXAEYC can place in the forefront these issues and help "rally the troops" to strengthen ECE in our state.
I have co-owned a child care center, worked in the public school sector as well as Head Start. As current president of the Paso del Norte Chapter, I came in during the transition time and was able to successfully guide our board through that change. I currently serve as the Chapter Representative on the TXAEYC Board.

Voting for these offices was held from February 6- March 8, 2019.
