Texas Healthy Building Blocks is a program designed to support early childhood programs in adopting evidence-based childhood obesity prevention practices while recognizing Early Childcare Centers for their work to improve the health of young children across the state.
The program includes multiple components including Go NAPSACC, technical assistance providers and a recognition program

Program Components

GO NAPSACC is an evidenced based tool that supports childcare centers to:

  • Assess current health practices
  • Establish an action plan to addresses areas of needed improvement
  • Identify practices to improve child health
  • Develop new skills to help children be healthy
  • Measure improvements in health practices

Participating childcare centers are paired with a technical assistance provider who:

  • Helps set goals based on GO NAPSACC results and recognition thresholds
  • Provides staff training, family education, and helpful resources
  • Guides improvements to health practices based on the established action plan

Childcare centers are recognized for implementing stronger practices related to the following areas:

  • Tier One: Screen time, nutrition, & physical activity
  • Tier Two: Infant feeding & outdoor play
  • Tier Three: Oral health & farm to ECE

THBB recognition requirements are aligned to Minimum Standards for Child Care Licensing.
